“Sand Bleached”: Walnut bowl, 6.88" in diameter

This was an experiment in sandblasting. I turned the piece deliberately rough and also wire brushed the surface before sandblasting. To my surprise, the sandblasting seemed to bleach the wood. I thought it might be an effect of residual sand, so I used compressed air to try to clean the wood as thoroughly as possible, but this did not alter the bleached color. For contrast, I made the interior of the bowl smooth and used a finish. The bowl’s only function is to feel good in the hands. I love that it resembles driftwood.
