The perfect bowl for someone who needs reminding that failure needn’t mean giving up on something: as the saying goes, “When life gives you lemons . . .” As I was finishing the foot of this thin-walled bowl, I misjudged the thickness of the wood I had remaining, and cut a small hole. I really liked the bowl, so I didn't want to just ditch it, so I found a small malachite cabochon I had on hand and used it to cover the hole. Then I thought, Why not do the bottom for good measure? It took me a few trials to get the inlay in the bottom right, but I finally got an even distribution of granules and added a second cabochon. After I gave it its name, I realized that there actually was a lemon inside the bowl—a patch of yellow sapwood that makes the name even more apt.
