“Brushed and Blasted”: Oak bowl, 5.7" tall

I’ve never seen oak like this before. I don’t know the species, but it grew in the Philadelphia area. The subtleties of color in the wood (tans, grays, blues, lavender, pink) are marvelous. The interior of the bowl is wirebrushed, and both the interior and exterior are sandblasted to highlight the grain. The tactile effect is subtle and surprisingly soft. I know I’ve used the word “subtle” twice already in this description, but this piece is subtle; its beauty sneaks up on you.
