This Arizona sycamore bowl has a classic outer shape. The natural voids in the walls are inlaid with malachite. The bowl’s top surface is slightly concave and features a raised bead (rounded band) sandwiched between grooves inlaid with azurite and malachite, surrounding a small, deep bowl. The base of the bowl has a single bead cut into it, echoing the design in the top surface. The overall design of the bowl takes advantage of and emphasizes the natural voids and the ray flecks inherent in the grain of sycamore (exposed in the wide top surface; see the detail photo).
